Prof. Jonathan Schaeffer

Prof. Jonathan Schaeffer

Jonathan Schaeffer is professor of Computer Science at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. His reseach interests include heuristic search, two-players games and parallel computing. He is author of many sciencific publications in specialized conferences, journals and books. He is recognized as a leading authority in computer games.

He solved the game of chechers, the largest computational problem to be optimally solved to date. He is the author of Chinook, the checkers program that is currently the World Man-Machine Champion. This experience was summarized in his influential publication "Checkers is Solved" in the prestigious Science journal. He has received several awards and prizes for his scientific achievements during his career.


Prof. Gregory Provan

Currently Prof. Provan is head of the Computer Science Department in University College Cork (UCC). He has been technical manager at Rockwell Science Center, where he led projects focusing on control and diagnostics of complex systems, ranging from the Space Shuttle to navy ships.

Prof. Provan is an expert in model-based diagnostics, discrete-event control, embedded systems, and open-architecture design. Prof. Provan runs an SFI-funded group, the Cork Complex Systems Lab. This research is focused on designing control and analysis methodologies for complex systems-of-systems.

Federico Barber es Catedrático de Universidad en el Departamento de Sistemas Informáticos y Computación. Su actividad investigadora se enmarca en el área de la Inteligencia Artificial, los Problemas de Optimización y Satisfacción de Restricciones, Planificación, Scheduling y la Ingeniería del Conocimiento, donde lidera un equipo de investigación.

Ha dirigido/participado en diversos proyectos de investigación competitivos nacionales e internacionales, redes científicas, y responsable de diversos convenios de transferencia tecnológica. Ha sido editor-fundador de 'Inteligencia Artificial', Revista Iberoamericana de IA y es revisor de diversas revistas internacionales.

Ha sido Presidente de la Asociación Española de Inteligencia Artificial (AEPIA) desde 2001-2007. Pertenece al Comité Ejecutivo de Iberamia (Comité Coordinador de las Sociedades Iberoamericanas de Inteligencia Artificial) y ha sido representante español ante el European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence (ECCAI).

 

Prof. Raja Chatila

He is senior scientist at the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Group from LAAS (France).His main research topics are Mobile Robotics, Control Architectures, Multi-robot cooperation, Task and Motion Planning, Personal and Service Robotics and Human/Robot Interaction.

 

Prof. Franscisco Herrera

He is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Granada and the head of the research group “Soft Computing and Intelligent Information Systems" and director of the Lab Evolutionary and Fuzzy Data Mining and Intelligent Systems.

He has published more than 100 papers in international journals and is coauthor of the book “Genetic Fuzzy Systems: Evolutionary Tuning and Learning of Fuzzy Knowledge Bases" (World Scientific, 2001).

As edited activities he has co-edited four international books and co-edited special issues in international journals on different Soft Computing topics, such as: "Preference Modelling", "Computing with Words", "Ant Colony Optimization", "Real Coded Genetic Algorithms", "Fuzzy Modelling" and "Genetic Fuzzy Systems".
